Artificial intelligence support has arrived for Google Maps!
Google Maps has started testing a brand new feature. The famous and much-loved app will now benefit from artificial intelligence.
Tech giant Google has announced that it will add new AI-powered features to its popular Maps app, designed specifically for the Indian market. These innovations, announced at the company's annual Google for India event, aim to significantly improve the user experience.
Google Maps will also allow experience searches. Users will now be able to make queries such as "unique picnic spots" or "themed birthday cakes". This feature will primarily display photos uploaded by businesses and users, providing a visual-oriented experience. Google will add labels or descriptions to places related to such queries using image recognition technology.
Considering India's variable weather conditions, weather warnings for low visibility due to fog and flooded roads will also be added to the app during navigation. The feature aims to improve driver safety and make travel planning easier.
These new features are set to start rolling out to users in India later this month. The AI-powered review summaries were introduced in the US in February and are now being brought to the Indian market. Google’s move appears to compete with rival Yelp, which is showing summaries of businesses in its revamped feed in the US.
Google also added a number of India-specific features in July, including better navigation guidance, improved navigation on overpasses and narrow roads, electric vehicle charging stations, and community-powered place discovery listings in select cities.
