Musk did it again: Tesla introduced the robotaxi Cybercab!
Tesla introduced its first robotaxi model, the Cybercab. What does the wirelessly charged and steering-less Cybercab offer?
Tesla showcased its latest products and software as part of the We, Robot event held today. One of the most striking parts of the event was the Tesla Cybercab robotaxi. So what does this vehicle offer?
Tesla introduced the Cybercab robotaxi prototype at an event held today. The company's CEO Elon Musk described this vehicle as an important step towards the goal of establishing a fully autonomous passenger transportation network. The Cybercab model, which has no steering wheel or pedals, was also exhibited in the announcement.
The Cybercab prototype resembles a much smaller passenger version of Tesla's Cybertruck model, which uses its design language. In addition, 20 Cybercab prototypes were exhibited and test drives were conducted during the event.
This event was postponed from last August due to Tesla's request for a "significant design change" in the front of the vehicles. The introduction is also very important for Full Self Drive capabilities this year after Tesla abandoned its $25,000 electric car project.
As part of its big goal, Tesla hopes to create a fleet of Cybercabs and offer autonomous driving at a cheaper price than public transportation. However, Musk also admitted that last year it missed its goal of having more than 1 million autonomous Tesla vehicles. While Tesla aims to operate its own robotaxi network, it also plans to allow customers to earn money by adding their vehicles to the network.
Of course, it should be noted that the robotaxi Cybercab is still in the testing phase and the vehicles shown are prototypes. Considering that the Cybertruck enters mass production in 3-4 years, a similar scenario could apply to robotaxi. However, Musk also said that there are plans to go on sale in 2027 with a more affordable price tag of $30,000.
